    Accu BRCA1 and BRCA2 Tests

    Accu BRCA1 and BRCA2 tests identify mutations in genes essential for maintaining genetic stability and preventing uncontrolled cell growth. These mutations significantly increase the risk of breast and ovarian cancers. The tests are recommended for individuals with a strong family history of these cancers, early-onset cancer, or those from high-risk populations like Ashkenazi Jews.     Sample Collection Process and Shipping Information

    · Sample Collection
    1.
    Open the swab tube carefully making sure not to touch or contaminate the swab tip.
    2.
    Swab the inner buccal area evenly for both cheeks 20 times.

    Break the swab tip into the collection tube that is pre-filled with the preservation buffer.

    Once the collection tube is sealed, shake the tube 10 times to mix the oral epithelial sample and the preservation buffer.

    Place the collection tube back into the kit and remove the protective seal on the yellow sticker underneath the front side of the kit. Make sure the kit is sealed well and mail it out to the designated laboratory for analysis.

    2. Overnight using UPS shipping is recommended. US Postal Service is not recommended due to delivery delays caused by campus routing of USPS mail. 

    3. Do not ship samples to arrive on Saturday or Sunday, the laboratory is closed. Contact the GDX Lab concerning holiday shipping/receiving schedules.

    4. Pre-paid, flat-rate USPS mailer labels are available. Fees are charged only after use.

    5. Track your sample number through the USPS tracking site.
